Retailers need a uniform federal data privacy law

The personalized retail customer experience is jeopardized by new state data privacy laws. A federal privacy law could preserve retail innovation.

NRF supports passage of federal data privacy legislation that would establish a uniform national privacy law that applies to all U.S. businesses handling the same or similar sensitive personal information.

Retailers have no higher priority than earning and maintaining trusted relationships with their customers. We support federal legislation requiring all businesses to use customer data responsibly.

As Congress considers federal privacy legislation, please urge them to adopt NRF’s Center for Consumer Privacy and Innovation principles for federal privacy legislation.
