NRF Announces Kal Penn as Closing Speaker for Retail’s Big Show

WASHINGTON – Actor, writer and producer Kal Penn will deliver the closing keynote at NRF 2023: Retail’s Big Show. The annual convention will be held in New York City Jan. 15-17 and is expected to draw close to 40,000 retailers, vendors and industry experts from around the world.

“Well-known for his many comedic movie and television characters, in recent years Kal Penn has shifted his focus to global climate change initiatives and promoting solutions among consumers and the greater business community,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Retail has been a leading industry in addressing this challenge by proactively engaging on pragmatic ways to mitigate their climate change impacts by working collectively with stakeholders and other sustainability partners across global supply chains. Kal will join us at Retail’s Big Show to offer timely insights on climate solutions.”

Penn recently launched the docuseries “Getting Warmer with Kal Penn,” which explores the intersection of climate, clean energy and business. He previously served in the Obama administration as associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, working on issues related to young Americans – including climate change.

During the closing session on Tuesday, Jan. 17, Penn will give a presentation on the critical topics connected to climate change. Following, he will then sit for a fireside chat to connect entertainment with climate solutions, impactful policy and a unique understanding of the global economy.

In addition to Penn, confirmed speakers at NRF 2023 include: Express CEO Tim Baxter; Whole Foods Market CEO Jason Buechel; Target Corp. Board Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell; Petco CEO Ron Coughlin; Walmart U.S. President and CEO John Furner; Macy’s Inc. Chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette; Pilot Company CEO Shameek Konar; Nordstrom Inc.
