The National Retail Federation created a database of enacted state laws and regulations on a variety of packaging, chemical, food additive, shopping bag, extended producer responsibility (EPR) and other sustainability issues affecting food and general retailers.
This database is in Excel spreadsheet format and includes enacted state laws and regulations on the following 14 topics for all 50 states and the District of Columbia:
bisphenol A restrictions
compostable labeling requirements
deposit return system requirements
expanded polystyrene restrictions
extended producer responsibility “all’ requirements
extended producer responsibility “packaging” requirements
extended producer responsibility “textile” requirements
heavy metal restrictions
per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) restrictions
phthalates restrictions; post-consumer recycled content (PCR) requirements
single-use carryout bag restrictions
single-use plastic food service ware restrictions
truth-in-labeling requirements
The database includes a description of each law, products impacted, compliance requirements and dates, links to the relevant legislative bill or state regulation, and a brief description of any federal activity on each topic, as well as other information.
