Neil Trautwein

VP, Health Care Policy

Neil Trautwein is vice president of health care policy at the National Retail Federation. In this role, Trautwein serves as NRF's lead advocate and strategist on health care policy and legislation and manages NRF's exclusive Health and Employee Benefits Committee.

With more than 30 years of policy experience, Trautwein is known as one of the most prominent employer health care lobbyists in Washington, leading a wide variety of health care coalitions. He is often called upon to serve as an expert to testify before congressional committees. 

Trautwein serves as a primary spokesperson for NRF on issues such as employer-sponsored health plans, health care costs and Affordable Care Act compliance. He has been featured in national news outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Associated Press and Bloomberg, and has appeared on multiple broadcast television networks including NBC, CNBC and Fox News.

Trautwein joined NRF from the National Association of Manufacturers, where he served as assistant vice president for human resources policy. Before joining NAM, he was manager of health care policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Trautwein also worked as director of governmental affairs at the National Association of Health Underwriters, and as a legislative assistant handling health care policy and other issues for Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

A native of Kentucky, Trautwein graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor's degree in politics and holds a law degree from George Washington University.
