How 6 NRF members are supporting those in need this holiday season

NRF member spotlight: Retailers including Madewell, Kroger and Chewy are spreading holiday cheer

Retailers serve their communities throughout the year, and the holidays are no different. To mark the global generosity movement Giving Tuesday, which started in 2012 as a day encouraging people to do good and give back, we’re highlighting several NRF member organizations that are making a difference this holiday season.

Madewell

Madewell is partnering with No Kid Hungry to raise awareness about food insecurity. The organization is donating $100,000 on Giving Tuesday to provide meals to 1 million kids. Consumers can help support this mission by adding donations while shopping online.

Gap Inc.

Gap and fashion designer Dapper Dan are launching the third drop of Dap hoodies on November 29 in honor of Giving Tuesday. Dapper Dan will meet fans and sign hoodies at a New York City Gap store. Gap and Dapper Dan are also joining forces for the Gap House Sessions series with nonprofit youth development and social justice organization The Brotherhood Sister Sol, where Dapper Dan will talk with local Harlem youth.

The giving does not stop there; Gap will also donate $100,000 to help The Brotherhood Sister Sol with its arts, education and community programs.

Athleta

Athleta is adding an impactful change to its consumer rewards program to support The Power of She Fund, which provides grant programs for women and girls. Athleta Rewards members can donate to The Power of She Fund by donating their rewards (100 points = $1).

Kroger

As many consumers feel the impact of inflation, Kroger is working to ensure shoppers can still celebrate without breaking the bank. It’s offering consumers a shopping guide with meal options to feed 10 people for as little as $5 per person.

Kroger also is expanding the number of promotions in-store and online, such as increasing fuel point savings during the holiday season. Shoppers can support Kroger’s mission by making donations at checkout. The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation will also donate the monetary equivalent of 1 million meals to Feeding America.

Meijer

Shoppers can join Meijer’s Simply Give holiday program by purchasing a $10 Simply Give donation card during checkout. These donations are converted into a Meijer Food-Only Gift Card and donated to local food pantries. The company will also double match any gift card purchased on Nov. 29 and Dec. 17.

Chewy

We can’t forget our furry friends this holiday season. Chewy will donate up to $1 million per week in pet food supplies for rescue pets in need to Greater Good Charities. In 2022, the company has already donated $31 million in pet food and supplies.
