The Retail Advocates Summit is the retail industry’s premier advocacy event, designed to facilitate meaningful dialogue between retailers and policymakers on critical issues affecting retail. Held in July 2024 in Washington, D.C., the summit provided retailers with a unique opportunity to engage directly with elected leaders who shape policies impacting the industry, while highlighting retail’s vital role in the economy, communities and career development across the United States.
The standout feature of the summit was The Retail Experience. Modeled as an advocacy trade show, The Retail Experience featured interactive exhibits that highlighted key issues such as organized retail crime, China tariffs and swipe fee reform. Lawmakers engaged directly with immersive displays created by leading retailers, small businesses and technology innovators, giving them a firsthand look at these companies’ unique contributions to the industry and customers. The interactive format gave retailers the platform to connect with Congress and advocate for meaningful policy change.
The Retail Advocates Summit brought together over 100 bipartisan lawmakers and 200 retail leaders, creating a dynamic platform for showcasing the industry’s far-reaching influence on the economy, job creation and daily lives across the country. The event also featured presentations of NRF’s Champion of Main Street and Hero of Main Street awards, recognizing lawmakers who have supported policies vital to retail’s growth.
Nearly 50 small retailers were also spotlighted through the America’s Retail Champions program, honoring them for their advocacy efforts and community contributions. Educational sessions with seasoned advocates and policymakers empowered small business owners to take an active role in shaping policy.
NRF looks forward to continuing to advocate for retail through innovative events and campaigns. Learn more about NRF’s work advocating for policies that help retailers and the communities we serve succeed.
