WASHINGTON -The National Retail Federation today issued the following statement from President and CEO Matthew Shay in response to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s announcement that Tom Donohue will be retiring and will be succeeded by Chamber President Suzanne Clark as president and CEO of the organization.
“The U.S. Chamber has grown exponentially under Tom’s leadership — in influence, in resources and in the impact it has on businesses large and small across the country. Just as important, Tom has always been accessible as a mentor and friend to so many people over the years, and each of us are better leaders because of his insights, guidance and experience. I certainly count myself among them.
“Tom will be missed, but I’m looking forward to working with Suzanne and her team to build upon Tom’s legacy. She is a good friend and I know she will ensure continuity related to the programs and priorities that are critically important as we begin to move out of this pandemic. It starts with helping rebuild our economy by encouraging capital investment and growth and job creation for the people who work in the communities our members serve.
“There are many challenges in the months and years ahead, and as with Tom, we will work closely and collaboratively with the Chamber staff and leadership as well as the entire association community to advance our shared mission and goals.”
